The saguaro cactus is the trademark of the vast Sonoran Desert, and it’s king in Saguaro National Park, which covers nearly 100,000 acres in Arizona. Each cactus produces tens of thousands of seeds each year, but few ever sprout—much less reach the tremendous size of 50 feet and 16,000 pounds.
